Remembrance Parade and Service
This morning I attended the Remembrance Parade in Granville Square and was pleased to see such a large turn out. I don’t recall ever seeing so many people around the War Memorial - there must have a thousand there at least. The attendance grows each year - I’m sure that the wars in Iraq and Afganisthan are in everyone’s thoughts on this day of national remembrance.
The service in St. John’s Church, after the wreath laying ceremony, was fully attended and afterwards I popped into the Church Hall to see the exhibition of second world war cartoons organised by the Bagnacavallo Cartoons Group. This exhibition displayed some very amusing cartoons alongside contemporary photographs of the war in northern Italy. Despite atrocious conditions the soldiers still retained their sense of humour. How sad that Alan Woods, who donated many of the cartoons, passed away before he saw them in the exhibition.
