Richard Stevens

Liberal Democrat Councillor for Stonefield and Christchurch Ward on Stafford Borough Council

Saved for posterity

Last night I went to the Frank Jordan Centre for a meeting of the Trustees of the Common Plott. We dealt with various isssues e.g. the resurfacing of some of the paths; our tree planting schedule; the funding for a new tractor shed and the application for the next payment of the our grant.

However, the most interesting news came under Any Other Business when our Chairman Peter Hamilton announced that the Plott Keeper, Adrian, had found some Plott records in an old tin box in one of the outhouses. On closer inspection these include Minute Books from 1855 and some books of account. Peter had brought them to the meeting and it was fascinating to thumb through the copper plate written minutes. It was agreed that all of the documents should be donated to the Records Office in Stafford for safe keeping. There’s so much so history contained within the hide bound covers of these books - they can’t be allowed to go missing again!
