Bonfire profit distribution
One of the most satisfying jobs I do is to chair the meetings of the Town Fireworks and Bonfire Committee. I was asked to take over from John Ferrie last year and, to be honest, felt more than honoured. John had chaired the committee for about eighteen years and had overseen an amazing team of volunteers who put on this annual spectacular.
The entire event is organised by local groups and charities and any profits are distributed between these groups. Obviously the input varies from group to group so a formula has been devised to bring fairness to the division.
This year’s bonfire and fireworks attracted the largest ever audience and the gate takings were therefore a record. So at last night’s meeting of the committee, after setting aside a reserve fund to cover the costs of next year’s event (we can’t afford bad weather insurance each year!) we agreed to distribute the sum of £7000 between the various groups. So two Guide groups, three Scout groups, a PTA, the Army Cadets, the Stroke Club, Red Cross and St. John’s were amongst the recipients of the share out.
