Another book launch!
I’d never been to a book launch before this year and last night I went to my second in a month! A month or so ago I attended Peter Holland’s launch of a book of poetry. Last night’s affair was very different! Somehow (and I’m still not sure how!) Dave Smithwick had managed to arrange for Stone to host the launch of Tommy Smith’s autobiography entitled ‘Anfield Iron’. And not only did the Liverpool legend Tommy turn up but we also had three other football legends to entertain us - Ian Callaghan, Terry Conroy and Joey Jones.
There was a full house in the The Crown Hotel ballroom and after an excellent meal we were entertained to some wonderful stories and jokes about players and managers to the point where my sides were becoming painful.
I have a suspicion we may see some of these speakers back again - and if one of them is Joey Jones I’ll be first in the queue for tickets!
