Two pubs in one night!
It’s a hard life but someone has to do it! First of all, Jill Hood and I had to head off to The George at Eccleshall but this was purely on business. We had been invited over to meet a group of people who are trying to set up a committee to promote Eccleshall and they thought we might be able to give them some tips and advice. It was interesting to talk with them and to learn that they are encountering the same sort of issues and queries that we have had to deal with here in Stone. I’m not too sure we were able to help them very much but they seemed very grateful for the chat.
Then it was up to The Brushmaker’s Arms at Oulton to join a group of ‘Brush afficienados’ to celebrate the CAMRA award of the title of Pub of the Month. In my book, the pub deserves a permanent award - it’s one of the last remaining old fashioned pubs. Quarry tile floor, scrubbed tables, no juke box or gaming machines and fantastic real ales. Being a free house the guest ales keep changing at regular intervals and are kept superbly. And on top of all that, Mark and Dianne are such excellent hosts. What more could you ask for? Congratulations to them both.
