There’s going to be a party!
I’m getting really excited about the professional cycle race - Circuits de Stone - that is taking place on Wednesday June 18th. The British Cycling Federation is organising the one hour and five lap race and national and international cyclists have already signed up.
I don’t know much about pro cycling but I can recognise the potential for a good street party when I see it! So following a meeting yesterday with several licencees, I was delighted to hear from David Turner, our Town Clerk, that Highways had agreed to the road closures around the town continuing until 10.30 pm. We anticipate that several thousands spectators will descend upon the town and it is therefore important from a Health and Safety point of view that the roads are cleared before traffic is allowed back through the town.
The upside is that four businesses around Granville Square - The Blue Rooms, The Crown and Anchor, Granvilles and The Post of Stone - can now go ahead with their plan to create an open air ‘party area’ in Granville Square including a raised stage for live entertainment! And I know that Custodio at The Lounge is also planning something special! I’m going to be spoilt for choice. What a night it’s going to be!
